Human Spirit and Freedom, in Action
Reflections about terrorism and civil liberties in times of crisis.

Thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the chaos and cowardice in Boston, yesterday. However, let's not let our lives be ruled by fear. When we allow fear to degrade essential Liberties that we take for granted, terrorism wins. We, as Americans, need to stay the course for Freedom in our modern world.
As we each process the emotions of the Patriots Day Bombing over the coming days and months, learn more about the details and see footage played over and over again, reminiscent of just twelve years ago, it’s easy to get caught up in limiting Freedoms and quality life.
But let’s not forget that those participants and spectators of the Boston Marathon attended to celebrate Freedom in their own way. Some runners were celebrating personal athletic accomplishments that required years of dedicated training and others were there to fund raise for charities in which they believe, so that they could give back to their communities. There were family, friends and neighbors in attendance who rallied together to support their favorite runner – and then there were the runners who selflessly ran past the finish line to hospitals to give blood for those who desperately needed it. That latter part is an example of the human spirit and Freedom, in action, which is never worth losing. They embraced a Freedom of Choice.

In being forced to contend with this turbulence that our society knew less of just fifty years ago, we can be thankful for the men and women of Our country who stand guard on the Homeland and have been able to thwart other such atrocities, the ones that we do not hear about and may never.
I would rather live in a Nation where Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness is honed and honored than be fearful of life being nasty, brutish and short.
