Review: "Finding Nemo" 3D, PG

DIsney and Pixar's "Finding Nemo" was recently released in 3D. How much better is this already amazing film? Read on to find out.

I have never been impressed with releasing every movie in 3D. There are many that are perfectly fine just the way they are. The added effects just make them look cheesy. However, now and then certain movies not only benefit from 3D but they also become more amazing. Titanic, for example, is a spectacular movie. It was released in 3D earlier this year and it was even more spectacular. The 3D effects added something more to it. Pixar's underwater adventure, "Finding Nemo", was also recently released in theaters in 3D and I must say that this already amazing movie became spectacular.

"Finding Nemo" tells the story of a clownfish named Marlin who has to find his son Nemo after Nemo is captured by some local fishermen. While on his journey, Marlin encounters a fish with short-term memory loss named Dory (played brilliantly by Ellen DeGeneres), and while they do not get along at first they soon become fast friends and help each other out. After encounters with sharks, sea turtles and jellyfish the duo finally reach their destination. Do they find Nemo? You will have to watch the movie to find out.

I loved this movie when it was first released in 2003. Actually, it happens to be my favorite Pixar film. (I love them all but this one tops them all. The Toy Story films are second.) Nine years later, I still laugh at all of the same parts and quote the movie line by line (I probably annoyed other moviegoers while doing so). While I was not sure how 3D would make it better, I was pleasantly surprised. All of the ocean scenes are more brilliant than before. Certain landscape aspects pop out at you and it does not look like a flat painting. Plus, seeing the film on a big screen is an added bonus.

Dory still remains my favorite character in the film. Ellen DeGeneres provides perfect comedic timing and by doing so allows Dory to be the comic relief. She also has some of the best and most memorable lines from the film.

This is definitely a family film. Take your kids or grandkids on a Friday afternoon to see this film, or, if your a young adult like me, go with a group of friends. It's fun to act like a kid for a couple of hours.

I see this re-release as a chance to introduce the younger generations to an instant classic. "Finding Nemo" 3D is currently in theaters for a limited release (I think it is for two weeks but I'm not sure) so get out there and go see it.

Happy viewing!!
