Senator Ayotte Prefers Mind Control Over Gun Control
Gun violence is not a mental health issue but a gun control issue. By shifting the debate from background checks to mental health Senator Ayotte makes the wrong choice. Let;s remember Newtown.
Rather then requiring gun sellers to do a background check on the buyer of guns, our NH senator prefers to shift the debate to mental health. She prefers mind control over gun control. She prefers government to get into our mental health records rather then allow common sense controls on gun sales. That's the wrong choice. It's a choice for a witch hunt on the mentally ill in order to avoid any infringement on gun owning rights.
No right is absolute. Governments always need to balance e.g. between freedom of expression and discrimination. So also between patient privilege and Second Amendment rights. In my book, freedom of thought will always trump gun rights. Protecting peoples health is more important then protecting their guns.
The truism that nothing can prevent all tragedies is even more true for mental health. Determining someones ability to bear arms may be hard, but certainly determining the "mental health" of a person is even harder. With even professionals often differing in their diagnosis.

Mind control is a diversion. It blames groups of people that happen to be autistic, or ADHD or have been treated for mental problems. It doesn't solve any public safety issue.
Putting gun rights before the rights of the mentally ill and gun ownership before mental health is wrong. Like putting armed guards in schools it supports the further dehumanisation of our society.

More measures will be discussed. The senator has a choice between mind control or gun control, between freedom of thought or gun right absolutism. I hope next ime she will makes the right choice for NH .
