What do the following people have in common: Patti LaBelle, Gary Hall, Jr., Billie Jean King, Bobby Clarke, Arthur Ashe, Halle Berry, Walt Frazier, Jerry Lewis, Ernest Hemingway, and Chris Matthews?
YES, they are diabetics. Some of these famous people have Type 1 diabetes. Living with Type 1 diabetes presents many challenges, but, in most cases, these diabetics have learned to manage their illness at very early ages.

Do you know any other diabetics? YES, you do! They are among your neighbors, colleagues, family, and so many others you meet daily. Type 2 diabetes has become an epidemic throughout our country. In most situations, this is a preventable disease. So, why would anyone live a lifestyle that would lead them directly down the path towards diabetes?
The answer is not always so simple. As a health and fitness partner of the American Diabetes Association-Eastern New England, my Fitness Together studio assists individuals with Type 2 diabetes (among other illnesses) quite often. Our primary goal is to assist each Type 2 diabetic client in developing a healthier lifestyle and to reduce their reliance on medication.

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 20th, my clients, friends, and supporters will be among the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Fitness Together studios taking action to bring awareness to the seriousness of diabetes. We will be at the 2012 StepOut Walk to STOP Diabetes at Boston Common. I am proud to state that for the 3rd consecutive year, my studio will have the most participants among all of the Fitness Together studios!
