You Can't Privatize Sandy!
Peter Luttik is a Nashua resident. Arrived in 2008 and experienced the Ice storm, Irene, Snowtober and several other major outages in Nashua.

Sandy now covers a dozen states. NH is only feeling the first gusts. But NJ is being blown away. NY fears flooding. Mandatory evacuations are in place. Emergencies and advisory are declared in 23 states.
The Government seeks to respond and lots of work will be needed to get people back on line. Obama was just on TV to help us prepare, but the real work will come afterwards. When Fema and other agencies need to show they are prepared to help.
Romney has a different vision. He wants to leave this all to the states. No need for coordination. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhXyJeKaj8E shows his comments. Unfortunately Sandy's 1,000 miles is bigger then any of the states. Recovery crews will be needed to come in from all of the country. And coordination is going to be critical to help as many people as possible. We remember that in Nashua from last year.

Romney would like to privatize the recovery effort. Disaster relieve as a profit center doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. Can't see a CEO coming out talking about Sandy as a profit center. That just doesn't make sense.
When resources are limited for prevention and recovery lots of money could to be made from allocating those resources to those who can pay most. That's of course a very bad idea: businesses before schools, theaters before hospitals. Those are not the choices we need.

Instead at times like this we need to work together and solve problems together, helping first where help is most needed. That's what Government can and should do. That's what those who want to lead us should understand.
But I'm sure glad Mr. Romney is not in charge today!
