Autumn is a spectacular season in New Hampshire with our exquisitely colorful fall foliage taking center stage. Want to learn how that foliage comes about? The Nashua Garden Club invites you to explore the not-so-secret science behind fall foliage. The program “The Language of Leaves: The Not-So-Secret Science Behind Fall Foliage” is open to the public, free of charge 7:00 PM on Wednesday October 1st. It will be presented, at the First Baptist Church, 121 Manchester Street, Nashua NH by Williamina Coroka, MS in Environmental Studies, Creator of The Magpie’s Apprentice, an eco-centered content learning platform.

Few can argue that there's anywhere more beautiful than New England in Autumn. With air as crisp as a freshly picked apple and scents of wood smoke accompanying a crimson, orange, and gold horizon. But why is it that the maples, oaks, and aspens (to name just a few) put on this stunning show? What is the purpose behind the carnival of leaves destined to drop? Attendees to this session will be able to discover the not-so-secret science behind fall foliage. Ms. Coroka will help us tap into basic botany and guide us as we learn about and actually try to replicate the colorful language of leaves.

Ms. Coroka graduated with her MS in Environmental Studies in 2015 after several years of seasonal jobs that took her from the coast of Chile to the mountains of Andalucia and myriad locations in between. Her deep commitment for preserving wild spaces and knack for evoking excitement in people’s perception of the natural world led her to create The Magpie’s Apprentice, a learning platform offering eco-centered lectures, presentations, and workshops. Willa’s spare time is spent propagating plants, designing curriculum, traveling, reading, and spying on birds.

All are welcome. There will be time for Q&A and light refreshments. A members-only business meeting will follow this session. To inquire about membership in the Nashua Garden Club, please see the membership page on this website. Further questions can be sent to NashuaGardenClub@Gmail.com .
