Join us as we celebrate the legacy of Frederick Douglass by participating in a global transcription event! We'll be one of hundreds of simultaneous events in libraries and universities across the nation, all coming together on Douglass's chosen birthday to help make Black history more accessible and searchable.
During the event, we'll tune into the national Douglass Day broadcast and enjoy free birthday cake while transcribing materials from the Colored Conventions Project. This groundbreaking archive documents how nineteenth-century African Americans organized around critical issues, including voting rights, citizenship, education, and labor.
No transcription experience is required. Please bring a laptop or tablet if you have one. A limited number of laptops will be available to borrow.
Please note: while the library is closed on Fridays, staff will be available to let in attendees for this event only from 12:00 - 12:45 pm.
