Did you know that mushrooms are one of the most beneficial foods you can eat? They are naturally low in calories while being packed with nutrients that help your body make energy, keep your nerves working, and protect it from damage. Hear how to produce these veggies for your family by attending the Nashua Garden Club’s September program, ‘Growing Shiitake Mushrooms’. The program is open to the public, free of charge, and will begin promptly at 7:00 PM on Wednesday September 2nd, at the First Baptist Church 121 Manchester Street, Nashua NH.

This session will be presented by Tracy Dunne, head of Breezy Woods Mushroom Farm, a premier source for naturally grown Shiitake mushrooms in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Located in Warren NH, Breezy Woods serves both retail customers at farmers markets and wholesale partners in the restaurant industry. Being committed to quality and mycological education, Ms. Dunne has worked extensively with the UNH Extension, contributing to farm food safety initiatives and sharing valuable industry information. The farm at Breezy Woods is known as a hub for interactive learning and hosting hands-on ‘Make Your Own Shiitake Mushroom Log’ workshops on their property and at events throughout the state.

During the September 2nd session, Ms. Dunne will highlight key aspects of these workshops, with a special focus on Shiitake mushrooms — exploring their unique flavor and rich, meaty texture. The evening will include the history of shiitakes, their flavors, the process for growing them on logs and resources to learn more. A few mushroom logs will be available for purchase.

All are welcome and requested to arrive by 6:45 for this 7:00 PM session. Following the presentation, there will be time for Q&A and light refreshments. A members-only business meeting will follow. To inquire about membership in the Nashua Garden Club, please see the membership page on this website. Further questions can be sent to NashuaGardenClub@Gmail.com .
