Invitation to Nashua Garden Club November Program: "Begonias"

As days grow shorter and temperatures begin to slide downwards, our gardening attention often turns to houseplants.Among plant categories, begonias stand out as exceptionally beautiful, highly varied, and remarkably easy to care for. The Nashua Garden Club invites the greater Nashua community to hear all about these stunning plants. “Begonias” will be presented starting promptly at 7:00 PM on Wednesday November 4^th. This session, open to the public free of charge, will take place at the First Baptist Church,121 Manchester Street, Nashua NH and will be conducted by Ginger Hedges, Co-VP of the Buxton Chapter of the Begonia Society and Nashua Garden Club Member.

Ms. Hedges is a certified permaculture garden designer and experienced begonia propagator. She joined the Buxton Branch of the American Begonia Society in 2017, has been a strong contributing grower and is currently Co-Vice president of the Buxton Branch. This organization is a non‑profit society devoted to begonias, established in 1938 and based in Massachusetts, serving New England and beyond. It promotes begonia culture, shares knowledge, and organizes meetings, shows, and educational programs.

Ginger grows many varieties of begonias while focusing on unique Brazilian species. She enjoys the idea of growing plants from far flung places, learning about their propagation and best care for species growing in differing climates throughout the world. This program will address the main types of begonias and where they are grown, a brief history of collecting begonias and core care practices that keep them healthy. Attendees will be sure to leave inspired, with fresh ideas for indoor and outdoor plants.
