Nashua Carjacking Suspect Crashes Minivan Outside Manchester Police Headquarters: Cops
Barton Tibando of Nashua was accused of stealing a minivan in Nashua, engaging in a chase in Manchester, and crashing the vehicle on Monday.

MANCHESTER, NH — A man from Nashua was arrested on Monday after being accused of carjacking a minivan, engaging in a high-speed chase with police in Manchester, and crashing the vehicle right outside police headquarters on Monday.
Around 1:45 p.m., police in the Queen City located a minivan that had been carjacked by an armed suspect in Nashua earlier in the day, according to Heather Hamel, the public information officer for Manchester police. Cops activated their cruiser lights and sirens in an effort to get the driver of the vehicle to stop in the area of Old Granite and Elm streets, but the driver fled the area.
Police followed the vehicle onto Valley Street while it traveled “at a high rate of speed and running red lights,” she said. At Maple and Valley streets, the van went through another red light and struck another vehicle traveling north on Maple Street.

“The crash caused the van to lose control, and the vehicle hit four granite barriers in front of the police department, uprooting them from the ground,” Hamel said. “The van spun around and came to rest beside the police department visitor parking lot. At that point, the driver got out of the van and ran into the parking lot, where Manchester officers intercepted him near the front door.”
Officers ordered the suspect, Barton Tibando, 53, of Nashua, to stop but accused him of refusing to comply. After an officer deployed a Taster, he was taken into custody.

Tibando was arrested on several charges, including reckless conduct-deadly weapon, receiving stolen property, and possession of a controlled drug, all felonies, as well as conduct after an accident, driving after revocation or suspension, disobeying an officer, resisting arrest or detention, and criminal mischief.
No one was injured during the incident, Hamel said.
