Local Authors Visit with Students at MicroSociety Academy

This past Fall, MicroSociety Academy Charter School (MACS) launched a Giving Tuesday Fundraiser to support a special visiting author series. As hoped, the community was able to rally together and raised over $1,200 to bring in three distinguished local authors. Jack Dalton, otherwise known as The Kid Conservationist, kicked off the series with a visit to two Kindergarten classes where he read his book, Kawan the Orangutan, Lost in the Rainforest. Students enjoyed meeting Jack and learning all about how they could help get orangutans off the endangered species list.

Next to visit MACS was the New Hampshire Poet Laureate, Alexandria Perry. Working with grades 3-8, Perry focused on teaching students how to use figurative language and narrative to write their own poems. Every student walked away with their own original poem to have and to share.

Award-winning illustrator and author, J.E. Morris, wrapped up the series by showing 1st and 2nd graders how illustrations can bring a story to life. They watched as she showed them some tips and tricks to tap into their inner-artist.
