Early Morning Gunshots Lead to Arrest

Nashua Police charge Miguel Ortiz on numerous charges.

A local man was arraigned last week after allegedly firing a handgun multiple times on West Hollis Street.

Miguel Ortiz, 20, of Badger Street in Nashua, was arrested on Sept. 21, and charged with reckless conduct, a felony, carrying a firearm without a license, and falsifying physical evidence, also a felony. He was held on $20,000 cash bail and arraigned on Sept. 22.

According to police, around 3:10 a.m. on Sept. 21, officers heard four to five gunshots in the area of West Hollis Street near Walnut Street.

“Upon their arrival they observed a group of about 10 individuals,” according to Lt. Denis Linehan of the criminal investigation division. “Officers were able to detain the majority of the group and identified Ortiz … as the individual who had fired a handgun.”

Police later determined that four rounds were fired into the air. No one was injured at the scene and Ortiz was then taken into custody.

While investigating the incident, officers learned that Ortiz had allegedly discarded the handgun in an alley before police arrive. The handgun was recovered on later that night. More charges were added to Ortiz’s arrest after that.
