
New Thalian Players will be holding early open auditions for this autumn's "BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL," directed by Joel Mercier.
Performances are October 18th-21, 2012 at Robert Frost Hall (Walker Auditorium) on the SNHU campus.

PREPARATION: Please prepare an upbeat musical selection to sing, either a cut of a song or a short piece around a minute and a half. Preferably something of a comic nature to fit the style of the show. Be prepared to read sides from the script (if needed)
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
- Bat Boy (Male, 16 - 26, Tenor) Also referred to as "Edgar." A bat boy.
- Thomas Parker (Male, Bari-Tenor, 35 - 50) The town veterinarian. Upstanding man with a dark streak.
- Meredith Parker (Female, Mezzo, 30 - 45) Wife to Thomas.
- Shelley Parker (Female, Mezzo, 16 - 25) The rebellious daughter of Thomas and Meredith.
- Sheriff Reynolds (Male, Baritone, 30 - 60) The local sheriff, coming up for re-election, doubles as Delia, a townswoman.
- Rick Taylor (Male, Tenor, 18 - 30) A rowdy, spelunking teenager. Shelly's boyfriend. Doubles as Lorraine, a Rancher's wife, and Mr. Dillon, a rancher.
- Maggie (Female, Mezzo, 20 - 40) Mayor of Hope Falls. Doubles as Ron Taylor, Rick's rowdy, teenager brother.
- Ruthie Taylor (Female, Mezzo, 16 - 35) Rick & Ron's younger rowdy sister who is attacked by Bat Boy. Doubles as Ned, a rancher.
- Mrs. Taylor (Male, Tenor, 30 - 50) The overprotective, aggressive mother of Rick, Ron, and Ruthie. Doubles as the Reverend Hightower and Roy, a rancher.
- Bud (Male, Bari-Tenor, 18 - 40) A rancher with a low IQ. Doubles as Pan, the magical creature of the woods and Daisy, the local school teacher.
STORY: Based on a tabloid article about a mutant half-boy half-bat child found in a cave by explorers, "BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL" begins with the discovery of the creature in the cave and follows the attempts of a small town to induct him into their society. Winner of the Best Critics Circle award for Best Off-Broadway Musical in 2001, BAT BOY is a comical and witty musical with shocking revelations!
