Fugitive Charged with Assaulting Officers
Police said Jeffrey Riel is wanted in Virginia on a probation violation.
Jeffrey Riel, 32, of 4302 Surf Ave., Chesapeake, VA., was arrested May 2 for being a fugitive from justice. Riel was also charged with resisting arrest and two counts of simple assault on a police officer, class A misdemeanors.
On May 2, 2012 at approximately 11:40 p.m., Nashua Police Officers conducted a subject stop of Riel. A warrant check revealed that he had an active arrest warrant out of the Chesapeake, Va., Sheriff’s Officer for a probation violation on an original charge of unlawful wounding. In the course of attempting to arrest Riel, he resisted officers and assaulted the arresting officers twice. No officers were injured in these assaults.
Riel will be returned to Virginia on the probation violation. A class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in jail, exclusive of fines. Riel was held at the Nashua Police Department pending his arraignment at the 9th Circuit Court - Nashua District Division on May 3.
