Gate City Chronicles Guest - Crosby Bakery
Seeing family owned businesses around town like Crosby Bakery gives me a feeling of home.
This October I was given the task to buy a birthday cake for my step daughter Kiley. Of course the cake had to be Red velvet and perfect. how was I supposed to know that red velvet cake is popular during the Christmas season?
My first and last stop was Crosby Bakery on East Pearl Street Nashua.
My thought was that I wanted to give a local small business the first
chance at my patronage. Gale Cummings co owner with her husband Michael told me that they do make red velvet cake , but not in October. I laughed a little and accepted my fate that I would have to search the big stores to please the princess's.
As I was leaving the store I had mentioned that I used to walk by Crosby's when I got out of school at temple street years back on my way to my dads print shop. I guess I found some comfort seeing Crosby Bakery still around and maybe that's what drew me there first. I think it helps with my inner compass seeing a store that's been around going back to my roots owned and operated by the same family. Seeing family owned businesses around town like Crosby Bakery gives me a feeling of home.
Oh and by the way, Michael made a special order for me, the cake was beautiful and delicious!
