Gate City Chronicles Guest - Healthy Heroes
We played Kick the can, football, hide and seek, and my favorite was war. Big Dave was the leader. We had a complex set of rules and honor was critical for the success of the game
I can remember as a kid in the 60 and 70's running into the house crying
in pain , it was as though the whole world was crashing in on me and I needed immediate care. I put it off too long once again. Dad! I would whimper, I'm Hungry!! It was dark out side, getting close to the end of the day for most ,the neighborhood kids all had to go back in the house. you could hear the moms yelling . Time to come in!
We played Kick the can, football, hide and seek, and my favorite was war. Big Dave was the leader. We had a complex set of rules and honor was critical for the success of the game. Hours of fun would pass the time.
It seems as though fitness was really fun time back then, my how the times have changed. I think I could count on one hand back then the amount of kids that were very large, it was not the norm. Wellness programs were the Boys and Girls Cub , the Y or the Nashua community Center on All street. I am glad to see them still around , but they have big competition. Starting with WIFI ,XBOX, 60" flat screen. Kick the can? Whats That? Playing outside cant compete with electronics and natural play time is squeezed out for social media face time. Staying inside and cuddling with your lap top or remote with a few munchies is causing concern for people like Dr. Chuck Cappetta and Robin Abodeely my guest today on Gate City Chronicles.
"Wellness is important for any society and when it comes to wellness in the City of Nashua there is good news and bad news. First, the bad news, the obesity epidemic is not only a national problem, it is impacting children and adults right here in Nashua. The good news is that there are lots of great programs in Nashua geared towards making our community a healthier place to live."
This broadcast highlights some of these programs including Dr. Chuck's Granite State FitKids, school based wellness initiatives and programs being developed through the Public Health Department. you can Like them on Facebook
Please take time to watch their Interview Here on Gate City Chronicles
