Hillary Clinton Dodges Keystone Pipeline During Nashua Town Hall

An Amherst voter pressed the 2016 presidential candidate on whether she supports the pipeline.

Campaigning in Nashua Tuesday, Hillary Clinton—so far the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016—declined to say if she supports the Keystone XL pipeline when pressed by an Amherst voter.

During a town hall forum at the Amherst Street School, Bruce Blodgett asked Clinton to say “yes” or “no” on whether she supports the pipeline. She said since the Obama administration is reviewing the matter, it wouldn’t be “right” for her to give an opinion.

“This is President Obama’s decision and I’m not going to second-guess him,” she told a crowd that reportedly numbered about 500. “If it’s undecided when I become president, I will answer your question.”

A recent University of New Hampshire poll found 43 percent of voters would choose Clinton for the Democratic nomination, compared to 35 percent for Bernie Sanders.

Sanders, who doesn’t support the Keystone pipeline, pounced on Clinton following her remarks.

“It is hard for me to understand how one can be concerned about climate change but not vigorously oppose the Keystone pipeline,” he said in a statement.

On Monday, Clinton also received flak for boarding a private jet hours after outlining a carbon-cutting plan in Iowa.

After her stop in Nashua Tuesday morning, she traveled to Hopkinton in the afternoon for an event at Beech Hill Farm Stand and Ice Cream Barn. It marked her third visit to the Granite State this month.
