Holocaust Memorial is Personal for Nashua Resident

Fred Teeboom talks about the effort to bring a Holocaust Memorial to Rotary Common on Access Nashua.

Former city Alderman Fred Teeboom is a featured guest on this episode of "Gate City Chronicles," during which he talks about the inception of the proposed Holocaust Memorial, which he is spearheading.

Teeboom discusses with program host State Rep. Kevin Avard how, as a Jewish boy in Holland, he spent his earliest years living as a "hidden child," protected from the Nazis by a Christian family.

"I was separated from my parents. I didn't know my mother; she visited me. I was hidden by devout Christians, who were at enormous risk. If you were caught hiding a Jew, it was a death sentence," Teeboom said. "The Nazis had a war on Jewish children. 'If you don't kill the children, they'll grow up to fight us,' so as a child I had to hide."
