If A Tree Dies on Main Street...

Maybe you've noticed: The newly planted trees look, well, kind of dead.

As city projects go, the current downtown improvements are going to be a big boost to foot traffic. Not only are the fresh sidewalks inviting, but there are no gullies and rifts of craggy brick to trip you up, which is a plus.

But what happened to the trees?

No, it's not about the long-standing trees that were removed. They had to go. They were improperly planted in the first place, causing the bricks to heave and the sidewalks to buckle.

We're no tree experts. So we understand that it could be the shock of the new environment. Maybe they're hibernating. Maybe it's that time of year when trees wind down anyway, and in the spring they will burst with new life.

We're rooting for them (pun intended.)
