Have Americans accepted lying as normative?
I am having flashbacks to the Bill Clinton era.
President Obama has proven that he is a pathological liar. He will say anything he needs to say at any given moment in order to get what he wants. The video clips of past and present are proof of that. We now know that President Obama deliberately repeated the big healthcare lie over and over again in order to sell a product that would not have sold otherwise. When confronted, he lied about the lie. This is maddening! I cannot reconcile being a citizen of a country that elects someone like this and allows him to stay in office. Who are we?
When the Clinton Lewinsky scandal broke, a truly humiliating experience for anyone other than Clinton, and a national disgrace, I believed I would wake up in the morning and Bill Clinton would have held a press conference to announce that he was resigning in shame. He would seek penance and psychological treatment. As we know that did not happen. Instead, the Democratic Party astoundingly defended the guy and went after Republicans for trying to impeach him for lying about it. Our country lost its moral foundation during that era because Democrats were more concerned about power than principle.
Here we go again.
Move-on.org is a Democratic Party front group that was established to move on from the Clinton scandal. I would have had great respect for them had they said to Clinton, the country needs to move on from this embarrassment so you need to take responsibility and resign so you don't continue to put us through this trauma. But that is not what they did. The rest is history.
Moral depravity is now part of the national landscape. Who cares? As long as our guy is delivering the goods to us and hammering the guys we hate, we don't care who he is or what he says. Lie and cheat all you want as long as we win.
How depressing. Who have we become?
