Yes.
I stole this from something I wrote on another PATCH thread:
The American community is fragmenting. Virtually all social indicators in the U.S. are declining relative to the rest of the world. Our country is becoming a moral cesspool. The lower middle class, especially, is in serious moral decline. This has been a very bad period in American history.
Sociologist Robert Putnam presented evidence that diversity is negatively correlated with civic participation and cohesion. Consequently, we have not managed diversity very well.
Instead of focusing on race, gender, ethnicity, religion, age, and all of the other identity factors that politicians routinely exploit to scare people for votes, we should be talking about culture - in this case preserving the American community.
America itself is fragmenting into ethnic and other demographic enclaves that have her on the brink of a civil war. A culture cannot sustain an onslaught to its core identity from so many competing norms and ideologies. No nation can survive that onslaught. That is why we are falling apart. The word "accommodation" does not even appear in the textbook I use to teach sociology. Diversity (multiculturalism) without accommodation is a recipe for disaster. It gets votes but it destroys a civilization.
Legendary broadcaster Paul Harvey offers a prophetic spiritual perspective about the moral decline of the nation that seems appropriate to share on a Sunday morning. * If you do not like the term, Devil, substitute a secular term that makes you more comfortable.
Our current President is contributing to the fragmentation by exploiting identity politics. We desperately need national leaders to focus on rebuilding the American Community. Will anyone have the courage to do it?
