Why are you seeking elective office?

To help chart the recovery of NH so that we come back bigger and better than ever. And to do this in a way that does not sacrifice the things that make us a truly special place, our small government philosophy and our dedication to preserving each other’s freedom.

The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

The single most pressing issue in our Ward is Inflation.

People I talked to are shocked by the explosion of food, fuel, and energy costs. These costs are directly tied to the disastrous fiscal and energy policies of the DC Democrats. I am also shocked and angry, it is hurting my family too.

Joe Biden and the Democrats promised not to raise taxes on anyone making less that $400,000 per year, but they managed to raise the cost of everything by more than 10%! The poor in our country would have been better off with a tax increase because they pay little or no federal income tax, but they do pay for food and electricity. And the reckless Democrat money printing and spending binge has made every dollar you managed to save or the ones you will earn, worth less tomorrow.

Now the bad news is, I can’t fix the “dangerously stupid” at the federal level. If you want to fix that, vote for Republican representation at the federal level.

The good news, some of what can be done at the state level is already being done by the Republican legislature, who has actually decreased state spending and taxation during the last two years! Lowering the state tax burden is the best way to help everyone being crushed by inflation, and NH has responded to the Republican approach by having the best economic recovery of all New England over the last two years! I will help continue this frugal trend.

Regarding lowering energy and heating fuel costs, I will do everything in my power to resist and remove mandates to use expensive and unreliable energy sources and to increase the supply of natural gas, propane, heating oil, and hydro-power (a much more reliable renewable) for NH.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

I believe in people, not government.

I believe that people don't need the government to be their parent and treat them like children, telling you what to do and treating your wages like it is an allowance they permit you to keep. I understand that the proper role of government is to be a servant to the needs of the people and not their master.

I view all legislation through the lens of the NH Constitution. If the proposed legislation improves the common good and is consistent with the restrictions on government that we the people imposed with our Constitution, I will support it.

If the legislation does not improve the public good or is not consistent with our Constitution, I will oppose it.

I am not afraid to say “No” to anyone, whether it be the Speaker of the House or the Governor. In fact, I lost a committee seat in 2016 as punishment for saying no to the Republican Speaker of the House, but it was the right thing to do, and I never changed my mind or my vote.

If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)

No one is perfect, and respect should be given to those who give their time and effort to represent our Ward for the “princely” sum of $100/yr. And I am sure that some in the community feel that the Ward 6 Representatives running for re-election did a great job.

So I won’t pretend to speak for the entire community, but I will speak on behalf of those who value limited government, low taxes, control of their children’s education, and personal freedom. In my opinion, the two Representatives running for re-election have consistently voted against parental choice, limited government, lower taxes, and personal freedom. If any one of these areas is your “hot button” issue, the Republicans running for the three seats are the better choice.

You don’t have to take my word for it, I am attaching a link to a publication put out each year by the NH Liberty Alliance. The New Hampshire Liberty Alliance (NHLA), founded in Nov. 2003, is a non-partisan coalition working to increase individual freedom in New Hampshire. They are your friends and neighbors who work on a voluntary basis to keep NH the special place that it is. I have provided a link to their scoring guide at their website (in this voting guide, we are still Hillsborough District 33):

https://www.nhliberty.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Final-Liberty-Rating-2022.pdf

BTW: This is a great scoring guide for people across the entire political spectrum. If you think government isn’t big enough, or controlling enough, or that taxes are too low, you too can quickly find the people you’ll want to vote for using this guide.

Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.

As your Representative, I will make it my goal to achieve the following:

Full economic recovery: Small, locally-owned businesses are the backbone of our middle class. Let’s support them so we can come back bigger and better than ever.

No Income Tax, No Sales Tax: You need to recover economically too. I will fight to limit the amount that government can take from you.

Better healthcare, lower costs: NH healthcare costs are far too high. We need legislative and regulatory reform to increase cost transparency and lower barriers to competition to lower your healthcare costs and to increase healthcare accessibility for all.

Better Educational Outcomes: Improve public education outcomes by returning focus to the basics. Expand the business-funded Children's Scholarship fund eligibility to help more parents.

Lower Energy Costs: Our energy costs are far higher than the national average and it hurts you, our businesses, and the poor. I will fight to lower those costs.

Back The “Blue”: I am a law and order candidate and I support our police. NH is a wonderful, safe place and I will fight to keep it that way.

Defend our First Amendment Rights: Our right to speak our minds freely is critical to maintaining our freedom and needed to point out when we are going down a dangerously wrong path.

Defend our 2nd Amendment Rights: If you believe in your right to life, you have the right to defend your life.

The best social program is a good job. The best possible thing government can do is to promote business growth since businesses create the jobs that allow people to take care of themselves and their families. I will do everything to support business growth.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I have been there (Concord) and successfully done that (served as your legislator). I carried with me to Concord, the sentiment of Fredrick Douglass (paraphrased): I will work with anyone to do good and no one to do bad. As evidence of my success in carrying out that philosophy, I provide my bi-partisan legislative accomplishments from my time as your Representative from 2016-2018:

Passed – With bipartisan support, a bill lowering high interest rates being charged to at-risk NH Homeowners on late property tax payments from 12% to 8% (2016-2018 HB1673).

Passed – With bipartisan support, legislation that rolled back unneeded and expensive medical regulations, making MRI and ultrasound medical procedures more available and more affordable (2106-2018 HB334).

Passed – Co-Authored a bi-partisan amendment to (2016-2018) HB1571, which creates a drug and alcohol treatment program for our 30,000 NH registered nurses – AT NO COST TO THE TAXPAYERS!

The best advice ever shared with me was:

"Always do the right thing and let the chips fall where they may." I have sometimes payed a personal price, but I never had any trouble sleeping at night.

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

If you own property, your tax bill includes the levy for county taxes. Your State Representative also oversees the county budget and votes on your county tax bill. I will try to keep that as low as possible too.

On a personal note, I love America and I love NH. Teresa and I moved here 36 years ago from MA and we have never regretted that decision. We fully embraced the culture and ethos of NH and we have worked to keep NH the wonderful, special place it is. Our children are native-born Granite-staters, (our gift to them).
