Man Connected to 2 Separate Forgery Cases

Joshua Hodgkiss was caught after he tried to cash a stolen check at a local bank.

Joshua Hodgkiss, 24, of 1 Seminole Drive, Nashua was arrested May 23, charged in two separate incidences involving burglary and forgery of stolen checks.

Hodgkiss was arrested yesterday following an investigation into a burglary on Cheyenne Drive which led to the second charge, dating back to a similar May 3 incident.

On May 3 a Nashua resident contacted police to report a forgery. The woman told police that while paying bills she noticed she was missing a blank personal check, so she contacted her bank and was told that someone named Joshua Hodgkiss had cashed one of her checks for $300.

The woman did not know Hodgkiss, nor did she authorize the transaction.

On May 23 police responded to the Cheyenne Drive residence for a report of burglary and forgery. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division conducted an investigation which concluded that Hodgkiss entered the Cheyenne Drive residence without authorization. He reportedly removed a checkbook. It was reported that Hodgkiss later attempted to cash one of the stolen checks at a Nashua bank. An alert bank teller became suspicious and declined to complete the transaction.

Hodgkiss was charged with burglary, a Class B felony, and two counts of forgery, Class B felony.

Police reinforced that the May 3 incident and the May 23 incident are unrelated and that there were two separate victims.

A class B felony is punishable by up to seven years imprisonment in State Prison, exclusive of fines. Hodgkiss is being held on a $25,000 cash or surety bail and has a scheduled arraignment date on May 24, 2012.
