MicroSociety Academy Charter School Unveils New Permanent Artwork!

Check out the new student-made permanent artwork at 591 W. Hollis St, made possible by the NH State Council for the Arts.

Nashua, NH (May 29th, 2024) - MicroSociety Academy Charter School (MACS), a public charter school for grades K-8, unveiled new permanent artwork on the outside of their building. After being awarded a grant by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, MACS was able to host an Artist in Residence to work with the school's K-5 population. The students of MACS spent three weeks working with Artist, C.M. Judge, to create this artwork that will brighten up the school for years to come.

MicroSociety Academy Charter School’s mission is to empower students to acquire the heart, knowledge, and skills for thriving in a 21st century global society by collaboratively creating and operating their own school-based “MicroSociety” - a microcosm of the real world. MACS is always looking for ways to empower their students, to give them voice and choice in their learning and everyday school life. The administration determined that working with the artist, C.M. Judge would be a good fit, as she too, valued voice and choice.

Every aspect of this artwork came from the students. They experimented with the shape and overall design of how the boards would look on the side of the building; they calculated how many boards would be necessary to give each student their own piece in the work; and they were given very little direction on what their piece should actually look like. In the end, MACS wanted the students to have a fair amount of say in what their school will look like to anyone who passes by.

MicroSociety Academy Charter School is extremely grateful to be given this opportunity by the NHSCA. This project would not have been possible without the grant, and is truly valued by everyone at MACS.
