MicroSociety Academy Charter School wins Grant from Building Hope!

PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL RECOGNIZED FOR LEADING THE WAY IN EDUCATIONAL INNOVATION BY WINNING A $10,000 IMPACT GRANT.

Nashua, NH (May 1, 2024) — MicroSociety Academy Charter School, a public charter school for grades K-8, today announced that it has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Building Hope, the non-profit leader in charter school facilities, financing, and services. MACS was recognized nationally for its exceptional impact on Educational Innovation. The grant was awarded at the third annual Building Hope IMPACT Summit held in April in Miami.

MicroSociety Academy Charter School’s mission is to empower students to acquire the heart, knowledge, and skills for thriving in a 21st century global society by collaboratively creating and operating their own school-based “MicroSociety” - a microcosm of the real world. The MACS founders strongly believe that a K-8 MicroSociety school will better prepare our children for college, post high school education, and the 21st century workplace. Our curriculum meets all state and local standards using innovative, engaging, research-based, technology-infused instructional strategies that have proven successful throughout the US and the world. Our students receive standards-based instruction that is enhanced with “real world” concepts and are given the opportunity during a daily MicroSociety period to apply their learning by reporting to their job and working in their own MicroSociety. Educational Innovation is truly at the core of our curriculum, and will only improve with the help of this grant.

As our school grows in population, we are always looking for ways to expand our Micro curriculum. This grant will help us with upcoming program needs, as we continue to expand Micro into our middle school programs. The middle school MicroSociety program requires the integration of more advanced technology, which is now made possible through the IMPACT Grant. We are also looking to kick off Micro 2.0, which is an updated MicroSociety curriculum which includes even more “real life” concepts, such as online banking with debit cards, a point of sales system, and websites for each business. Lastly, this grant will be useful in allowing our students to foster their creativity even further. Our ability to grant business licenses to more complicated proposals has expanded, and we are so excited to see what the upcoming school year will bring.

MicroSociety Academy’s Executive Director stated “We are so grateful and honored to be recognized by Building Hope in the category of Educational Innovation. At MACS, we strive to be an innovator of education in the State of New Hampshire. Our unique MicroSociety program provides an adaptive and innovative way of teaching students how their world works and, more importantly, how their education and skills learned in the classroom will apply to future endeavors. The IMPACT Summit provided the MACS administration team an opportunity to meet and collaborate with Charter leaders from all over the United States, who are paving the way in their field. The recognition and grant award will make a huge impact by supporting programmatic needs in our school. We are honored to be part of the Building Hope circle and found the Summit and connections made invaluable. Thank you, Building Hope!”

“The 2024 IMPACT Award winners exemplify the potential of public charter schools to redefine the future of education," remarked Building Hope’s Chief Impact Officer and Chair of the IMPACT Selection Committee Sherilyn Moore. "Their outstanding achievements in engagement, innovation, and empowerment are beacons of hope for students, families, and the communities they serve.”
