Narcan May Be Stocked in Nashua Schools

NASHUA, NH — Nashua school officials on Monday night will decide on possibly stocking Narcan in schools

Nashua Board of Education President George Farrington last year proposed stocking the heroin antidote in the city’s middle and high schools.

“We need to our be proactive and look at this like defibrillators and EpiPens,” Farrington said at the time.

The school board will review the proposal Monday night during a 7 p.m. meeting at Nashua North High School.

Heroin abuse has been declared a public health crisis in New Hampshire. Last year, Nashua police said they have recorded 142 overdoses—including 16 deaths.

Narcan is available as an injection or nasal spray. It reverses the effects of a potentially deadly overdoses.

Farrington told the board heroin abuse may not be a huge problem in Nashua schools—but stocking Narcan is still worth looking into.

Narcan is available for free at at least 13 locations across the state. Many police departments now carry it.
