The Nashua bomb squad was called for a suspicious package in Hudson Sunday.

NASHUA, NH — The Nashua Bomb Squad was called for a suspicious package in Hudson Sunday on Christmas. It turned out to be a false alarm, according to police.

Hudson police Sgt. Michael Gosselin said the package turned out to be a suitcase left on top of a collection bin for the needy at the Hudson 7-Eleven on Central Street. Police were called to the scene at about 1:45 p.m. and closed off the store parking lot for nearly three hours as they dispatched a robot to investigate the package.

The collection was for books and the suitcase was placed awkwardly on top:

"It appears that the piece of luggage was intended to be a donation for the clothes receptacle," Gosselin said in a statement. "However, the Hudson Police Department is urging everyone to use common sense when of disposing items near collection bins."
