Nashua Charter School Recognized For Excellence

NASHUA, NH — A charter school in the Gate City is one of four Granite State schools that will be recognized for excellence next month. The Academy for Science and Design Charter School in Nashua received the news on May 13, 2019, that won a New Hampshire Excellence In Education Award (EDies). During a school assembly yesterday afternoon, students, faculty, and local education officials were surprised by the announcement.

The Excellence in Education Initiative recognizes public schools in the state that meet high standards of excellence and can serve as representatives of the many excellent schools in New Hampshire.

The other three schools winning awards in 2019 are Barrington Elementary School, Somersworth Middle School and Alton Central School. Barrington and Somersworth were named schools of excellence while the Academy was named in the high school category yesterday. Alton was named in the K-8 category this afternoon.

McDonald's restaurants is the prime sponsor of the EDies.

The EDies awards were created in 1994, as an opportunity to celebrate major statewide education initiatives. This year’s event will be held on June 8, at the DoubleTree Hilton in Manchester.
