Nashua Firefighters Knock Down Christmas Eve Apartment Fire

Three people were left homeless after a fire on Tolles Street; Tyngsborough firefighters offered station coverage.

NASHUA, NH — Firefighters in Nashua were kept busy on Christmas eve fighting an apartment fire.

Around 8:45 p.m., firefighters were sent to a report of a fire at a two and a half story wood frame multi-unit building. Engine 1 stretched a line to the second-floor apartment while Ladder 1 began searching for occupants. Ladder 2 vented second floor windows, allowing heavy black smoke to escape the building, Deputy Chief Kevin F Kerrigan of the Nashua Fire Department said.

“Searches proved to be negative as all occupants had self-evacuated,” he said.

Kerrigan added the apartment of origin on the second floor sustained fire and smoke damage throughout and was found to be uninhabitable.

“When smoke detectors sound, evacuate the building,” he said. “Exiting the building as soon as possible will provide you with the best opportunity for survival.”
