Nashua Fire Rescue said there were no injuries, and two cats were rescued, from Monday morning blaze.

NASHUA, NH – A Lake Street home sustained heavy smoke damage from a basement fire Monday morning. No one was injured, and two cats were rescued, in the blaze that Nashua Fire Rescue were able to confine to the basement upon arrival at the 1½-story wood-frame ranch.
Nashua Fire Rescue responded to the fire about 6 a.m. and requested a working fire with an additional engine and ladder. They used two hose lines to knock down the fire quickly. Everyone in the house made it out safely, and the two cats were located and safely removed to the outside.
Hudson and Tyngsboro, Mass. provided mutual aid during the call.

Nashua Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Kevin Kerrigan said that, while there were working smoke detectors in the house that woke up the residents and alerted them to the fire, if there had been a working smoke detector in the basement they would have been alerted sooner and damage may have been minimized.
The fire is under investigation by the Nashua Fire Marshal.
