Nashua Man Charged With Criminal Threatening, Disorderly After Standoff With Cops: Update

Cops: Justin Spirko was asked by a Royal Crest Drive complex employee to turn his music down; instead, he threatened to torch the building.

NASHUA, NH — A Gate City man is facing three charges after being accused of threatening an apartment complex employee and barricading himself inside an apartment while involved in a standoff with police on Monday.

Police were sent to the Royal Crest Drive apartment complex around 7 p.m. for a report of a man threatening a woman at the complex. The woman, a complex employee, told police she contacted Justin Spirko, 37, due to music coming from his apartment, which was too loud. He was accused of responding by saying he would light the building on fire.

“Officers made contact with Spirko, who refused to exit the building and became uncooperative,” Sgt. John Cinelli, the public information officer for the Nashua Police Department, said. “Members of the crisis negotiation unit attempted to have Spirko peacefully surrender, and he continually refused to leave his apartment.”

Members of the unmanned aircraft systems unit and special weapons and tactics team were then activated.

After several hours, Spirko surrendered and was arrested. He was charged with criminal threatening, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. Spirko was held on preventative detention and was scheduled to be arraigned in Nashua District Court on Tuesday.
