Nashua Man Steals Family's Xmas Presents, Hides on Roof: Police

Nashua police said Carl Kirsch broke into a family's home Monday, grabbed Christmas presents, then fled as the homeowner confronted him.

NASHUA, NH — A Nashua man stands accused of being a real-life Grinch, as he was arrested Monday on charges he broke into a family's home, fled with their Christmas presents, then hid on a roof with the loot. Carl Kirsch's grand plan came unwrapped, however, as officers tracked him down and took him into custody.

Kirsch, 41, of 33 Cross Street, Apartment B, was charged with felony burglary.

Nashua police Lt. Craig Allard said Monday at about 1:30 p.m., they received a call from a man who lives on Lock Street.

"The victim reported that when he came home for his lunch break he discovered that the backdoor to his had been kicked in and there was an unknown man in his house," Allard said in a statement. "The victim confronted the suspect and the suspect fled the residence with Christmas gifts."

Allard said the suspect, later identified as Kirsch, fled on foot but was tracked down a short time later to his own residence, where he was hiding on the roof.

Kirsch refused bail and was scheduled for an arraignment Tuesday in Nashua District Court.

Kirsch has a criminal history that includes charges of forgery in 2011 and driving after revocation earlier this year.
