Nashua Student Advances in National Spelling Bee, Will Appear on ESPN
Arushi Kalpande, 13, advanced to the semifinal round, which will be televised on ESPN Thursday.

Nashua student Arushi Kalpande on Wednesday advanced to the semifinal round of the 2015 Scripps National Spelling Bee—and she’ll appear on ESPN Thursday.
Kalpanda, 13, correctly spelled ”nonagesimal” during a qualifying round Wednesday to move on to the semifinals of the 88th annual event. She’s a student at Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High School.

Kalpanda is one of 285 spellers in this year’s bee. She qualified by winning the Union Leader’s spelling bee contest earlier this year. She also competed in last year’s national bee.
The semifinals will be aired Thursday at 10 a.m. The finals start at 8 p.m.

Kalpanda wants to be a physicist when she grows up. She’s fluent in Marathi, English, and Hindi and plays violin. Her favorite subject is science.
