Nashua Student Makes NH Proud in National Spelling Bee
Arushi Kalpande, 13, advanced to the semifinals Thursday televised on ESPN.

A Nashua student has made New Hampshire proud after nearly advancing to the finals of the 2015 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Arushi Kalpande, 13, made it to the semifinal round but was eliminated when she spelled “dicoccous” incorrectly.
“Great job ... getting this far,” U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen said in a statement. “New Hampshire is proud of you.”

Kalpanda was one of 285 spellers in this year’s bee. She made it to the top 50. She also competed in last year’s bee.
The national spelling bee final will be televised tonight at 8 p.m. on ESPN.

Kalpanda wants to be a physicist when she grows up. She’s fluent in Marathi, English, and Hindi and plays violin. Her favorite subject is science.
