Nashua Student Still Alive in National Spelling Bee
Arushi Kalpande correctly spelled "holoku" Thursday to advance in the semifinal round—televised live on ESPN.

Nashua student Arushi Kalpande on Thursday advanced in the semifinal round of the 2015 Scripps National Spelling Bee—televised live on ESPN.
Kalpanda, 13, correctly spelled “holoku”—a long gown—during the final round of 49 in the 88th annual event. She’s a student at Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High School.
The finals start 8 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN.

Kalpanda is one of 285 spellers in this year’s bee. She also competed in last year’s bee. She qualified by winning the Union Leader’s spelling bee contest.
Kalpanda wants to be a physicist when she grows up. She’s fluent in Marathi, English, and Hindi and plays violin. Her favorite subject is science.
