A Nashua teenager won a Google Science Fair award.
Deepika Kurup is a senior at Nashua South High School.
She won the National Geographic Explorer Award for devising a way to removes toxins from water. She said she was inspired after visiting India and seeing problems with contaminated drinking water.

“One-ninth of the global population lacks access to clean water, and 500,000 children die every year because of water related diseases,” she wrote in her project. “This unacceptable social injustice compelled me to find a solution to the world’s clean water problem.”
Her idea of a pervious photocatalytic composite has applications for water purification systems, wastewater plants, and pavement coatings.
