Nashua Woman Takes Deal of 3 Years in Prison for Fatal Hit-and-Run
Cara Smith, 40, pleaded guilty to negligent homicide for the 2014 death of Robert Derome, 63.

A Nashua woman agreed to serve 3 years in prison in exchange for admitting to a fatal hit-and-run last year.
Cara Smith, 40, of Nashua, pleaded guilty this week to negligent homicide, conduct after an accident, and insurance fraud, according to WMUR.
On Feb. 23, 2014, Smith said she hit Robert Derome, 63, of Nashua, on West Hollis Street at about 7:20 p.m. then fled the scene. Derome died of his injuries.

Smith was driving a sport utility vehicle that police were able to identify in security camera footage. They received an anonymous tip that also helped lead them to Smith. Police said they found her vehicle with damage consistent with striking someone.
Smith told police she had been drinking that night.
