Neighbor Brigade Founder Pam Washek

Neighbor Brigade co-founder died on Dec. 2.

Pam Washek, co-founder of a community outreach organization that delivers meals to cancer patients, including the only NH chapter here in Nashua, has died.

. She was well known in her hometown of Wayland, Mass., and many other communities for her connection to Neighbor Brigade, an organization she co-founded with her friend Jean Seiden in 2003 as both women were undergoing treatment for cancer.

Neighbor Brigade was designed to provide a network of individuals helping out with meals, errands and more as neighbors coped with illness or crisis. There are now more than 30 chapters of Neighbor Brigade throughout the state and the only NH chapter here in Nashua.

Calling hours are Thursday, Dec. 6 from 4 p.m.-8 p.m., and funeral services  are set for Dec. 7, at 10 a.m. Both calling hours and services will take place at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Weston, Mass.

"She mattered to so many people," said Wayland selectman Joe Nolan, who has known Washek since middle school. "Her faith, courage and grace were an example to us all, every life she touched is better for her being a part of it. She was a big part of our community and she will be missed."
