Despite being named the best state in which to live in a recent summary publicized by Politico, New Hampshire failed to crack the top ten on a survey of well-being conducted by the Gallup Organization. New Hampshire made the second tier. North Dakota was first. West Virginia was last.
This survey measured six variables - life evaluation, emotional health, work environment, physical health, healthy behaviors, and basic access.
The Politico summary looked at different factors. This description is from the Politico story:
(looked at) state rankings from reputable sources like the Census Bureau, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the FBI, and on important factors such as high school graduation rates, per capita income, life expectancy and crime rate.
One would need to delve deeply into the factors and the measurement to determine why New Hampshire fared less well on the Gallup survey. The focus on health instead of wealth may be an interesting distinction.
