About Our Weeklong Event

We at City Arts Nashua had to think outside the box last year by creating a new format for our traditional ArtWeek, now in its 17th year. Due to the ongoing pandemic, we are again featuring a virtual ArtWeek and KidsWeek, with a few in-person happenings especially on Saturday and throughout the week for kids and adults alike!

With a variety of quality arts-related programming, we are helping our creative community reach an even larger audience with social media connections and shared programming to be offered Sat., Oct. 16 – Sun., Oct. 24, 2021. In this way, we hope to invite in a broad audience in a format that allows people to tune in from anywhere!

We kick off ArtWeek by exploring the art scene in the Nashua area, seeing our signature mural installation come to life, live, letting you meet local artists and performers via video footage and seeing some of the work of our artists in downtown Nashua’s windows. The video segments, which will be televised and shown on various online platforms, have been professionally filmed by Access Nashua Community Television who generously helped create and broadcast this excellent programming.

How to View ArtWeek

Throughout the week, and throughout each day on Access Nashua Community Television, City Arts Nashua’s website and social media there will be profiles of artists and their works, posts about each artist will be displayed on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, along with Twitter and LinkedIn. Events and programming televised on Access Nashua Community Television Comcast Channel 96, can be found on accessnashua.org, City Arts Nashua’s website, social media pages and City Arts Nashua’s YouTube channel. We will update soon with the programming schedules.

Live/in person events:

• Multi-talented artist Eric Escobar will hold a live artmaking performance to help kick off ArtWeek and create our ArtWeek installation piece as he has done for the last several years at our previous in-person ArtWalks, at 30 Temple St., Nashua on Sat., Oct. 16 starting at 10:00 a.m. There will be refreshments from a local ice cream truck, Hazy Ice Cream, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. During the day Nashua’s Great American Downtown cultural and downtown events organization will also be holding some nearby outdoor events, and all are walking distance, including to and from our activities below. The Rotary Club of Nashua West is also holding a “Duck Derby,” also nearby. See below for link to all these concurrent events.
• Self-guided public sculpture tour of the works of the Nashua International Sculpture Symposium. Hard copy maps are available at Picker Artists Studios at 3 Pine St., Nashua, or using the free Distrx app, which will also be available on City Arts Nashua's website: www.cityartsnashua.org

· Artwork to be on display in the windows of Downtown Nashua business locations. There will be QR codes accompanying the pieces for viewers to see and learn more about the artists:

o Bar Harbor Bank will display the works of artists Janice Donnelly, Madeleine LaRose, Carol Lake, Nona Angelini and Joseph Bryant at their 188 Main Street location, on the East Pearl Street side of the building

o DesignWares will show work by Brenda McDougald at their 206 Main Street location

o The Nashua Area Chamber of Commerce will be showing art from Gate City Charter School for the Arts students in their windows at their 60 Main Street, Suite 200 location

Participating in the AWESOME KidsWeek!

Our popular scavenger hunt is back and even better this year! Yes, we may have to stay socially distanced, and yes, we are all tired of Covid restrictions, but this year we are making even more mini art kits and even more fun content for our young artist friends to enjoy! With a little help from Access Nashua Community Television and Nashua-based photographer Sid Caesar, Woz Watts and Sid the puppet are going undercover as superheroes, channeling “The Avengers,” hiding new, fun art kits for kids to find at various public sculpture locations throughout Nashua. Five of these kits will contain a very rare, very exclusive “creativity stone”, which will grant the artist that discovers it unlimited creative powers! During ArtWeek, 50 mini art kits, containing paint, sewing or sculpture projects will be hidden at various Nashua International Sculpture Symposium site locations. Hints will be revealed through our City Arts Nashua social media, and hard copy maps of all the sculpture site locations will be available at The Picker Artists Studios, at 3 Pine St, Nashua. Be sure to watch for fun videos starring Woz and Sid on Access Nashua Community Television and City Arts Nashua’s social media! Join in the fun, and find your creativity superpowers! The hunt begins soon!

The 50 mini art kits are as follows:

· 25 mini watercolor sets, with mini sketchbook

• 15 mini polymer clay kits, with charm making accessories
• 10 mini sewing kits, with pre-cut felt and pattern

*Six of the kits will contain a plastic “gemstone” aka “creativity stone”, a la “The Avenger’s” infinity stones.

· Nancy Goodwin/UpbeatNH Youth Orchestra

· Carol Lake live special events painter, plein air art, fine art, portraiture,sculpture; travels globally for special event painting

· Ruth Boland/League of NH Craftsmen basketmaker with League of NH Craftsmen

· Sumeet + Gracelynn Mehta/myllyynnis food photography Mother - daughter team

· Teresa Moler Watercolor artist and puppeteer performing since childhood

· Madeleine LaRose creates local landscapes in pastels and acrylics

· Bonnie Guercio creates mixed-media collages

· Lisa Cuipa landscape photographer focused on New England scenery, nature and textures

· Karina Mitchell/Membit interactive art created by pairing traditional mediums with emerging technology; collaboration, remixing and using public domain assets are central to these works

· Nona Angelini painting/sketching; mixed media figure drawing, small sketches, brings awareness to current social issues

· Nashua Community Music School will highlight musical work in the community; one children's video will appear in partnership with Nashua Public Library

· Leslie Pasternack/Lemon Punch Theatre Lab a theatre artist who teaches scene study, physical comedy, more to adults

· Ricardo Cortez work ranges from dark abstract to soft whimsical photography

· Douglas Huntley abstract mixed media artist working currently on "splatter paintings" as a new technique to apply colors onto textured canvas surface

· Janice Donnelly paints bright, colorful and happy landscapes in oils focusing on untouched areas of New Hampshire

· Olivia Powell immersive, performative, and imaginative writing from a circus of stories

· Loretta Hubley re-composes scenery she has experienced through etching and painting to inspire contemplation of the spiritual messages embodied in nature

· Quint-Essential Winds musicians performing works by American composers

· Brenda McDougald landscape photography

· Bitter Pill father + daughter and more rhythm and bluegrass band from New Hampshire

· Joseph Bryant pyrography, custom wooden plaques canes/walking sticks, wood carving

· Nonda’s Gallery a multimedia enigma, a visionary fairy tale

· Picker Artists showcase of the artists who make great art together and separately in this wonderful creative center
