NH Bobcat Hunting Plan Abandoned

Bobcat hunting will remain illegal in New Hampshire after state officials on Wednesday announced they abandoned a plan to revive it.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officials announced the decision Wednesday.

Bobcat hunting in New Hampshire was outlawed about 25 years ago as the animal's population declined.

The plan would have allowed bobcat hunting in December and January. Fifty hunting permits would have been issued to residents through a lottery.

Supporters argued the bobcat population has recovered enough to allow for hunting; opponents said the plan is inhumane.

Lawmakers recently reviewed the plan and voiced several objections, which Fish and Game officials said led to the decision to withdraw the proposal.
