NH Infant Beaten to Death, Autopsy Reveals

Shawn Sylvester died Sunday. He was 11 months old.

An 11-month-old infant who died over the weekend in Alexandria was beaten to death, according to an autopsy.

Shawn Sylvester died Sunday. Police initially called the death suspicious.

An autopsy was completed Tuesday but police withheld the results from the media until Friday.

“Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jennie Duval has determined that the cause of the child’s death was blunt impact head trauma,” police said in a statement. “The manner of his death was homicide.”

As of Friday morning, police had not announced any arrests in the case. Police said their investigation is ongoing.

Alexandria is in central New Hampshire just south of the White Mountains.


This is the second time in the last few weeks state authorities have found a young child beaten to death. In September, a Bedford mother was charged with murdering her 1-year-old daughter.
