NH Receives $2.6M Federal Grants For Bus Improvements

US DOT is awarding the money to the city of Nashua, the Cooperative Alliance for Seacoast Transportation, which serves Exeter, Portsmouth.

WASHINGTON, NH — The U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration awarded $264 million to improve bus systems and mobility for transit riders around the United States on April 5, 2018, including grants for New Hampshire. The grants will fund projects around the country to replace, rehabilitate, and purchase buses and related equipment as well as projects to purchase, rehabilitate and construct bus-related facilities, such as buildings for bus storage and maintenance. The Granite State is receiving $2.6 million for two projects, according to the US DOT FTA.

“Every day,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao, in a press statement, “working families across America rely on buses, and these grants will ensure that these vital services continue to be both safe and efficient.”

The city of Nashua will be receiving $1.08 million to fund two projects: Replacing older transit vehicles that have exceeded their useful life, improving service efficiency and reliability in southern New Hampshire; as well as rehabilitating its transit center, including repairs to its roof and surrounding pavement.
