Noah and the Great Flood

The Book is better than the Movie

The importance of understanding the correct biblical account of Noah is critical when considering the true condition of humanity, the nature of humanity and the biblical narrative that leads us to the hope of the Gospel of Christ.  The Gen 6:1-6 account says,   "And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said my spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants [nephilim] in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. “

This biblical account begins to show that evil was  the condition and nature of all humanity. Mankind is flesh and evil was continually in mankind's heart.  He continues,  “And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. (Gen 6:7-8)

The apostle Peter wrote about those who were disobedient, “when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water."  (2 Peter 3:20)  Peter speaks of God as longsuffering,  holding back on HIS Judgment until the appointed time.  That time was when the ark was ready along with all who would come  into the ark. The Lord Jesus said, “But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”  (Matthew 24:36-39)

There is no indication that the heart of humanity has changed since Noah.  History  has shown that the pagan and those who claim piety have evil bound in their hearts from their youth. Our only hope is in the Gospel of Christ.  When I consider the Cross that Jesus was crucified on, I see GOD’S Judgment for all mankind’s evil placed on Jesus the innocent, GOD in the flesh. Jesus is the GOD Man ark. He is the place of refuge from the coming judgment.

In this light Jesus  is also our Passover Lamb who was sacrificed on our behalf so that when the angel of death comes for permanent separation from God then Gods judgment on the evil that we have done will be satisfied because we have received the sacrifice of His Son Jesus.

Noah was righteous because he believed GOD.  He needed grace because he was a man made of flesh and sinned. Jesus Said, “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hates the light neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.” (John 3:17-)

I am not writing here to criticize the movie Noah, I only want to point out that if we miss the true message and biblical historic account, then we can miss the boat again.
