Orange Half Diet?

The Baltimore Oriole (in part the Northern Oriole) is nowhere near as popular with orchard owners or managers as they are with the residents who attach the orange halves to tree outside their window. They are beautiful and the sounds they make bring pleasure to the neighborhood. The bird is about 7-8 inches in length and they nest in a woven, hanging nest usually out on a branch high in a tree and many times over water. The nests are made mostly of abandoned pet hair or similar materials. The bird in this photo is a male and the orange halves preferred are "Valencia" brand or type.
