This little Mallard family started off with many more ducklings than the two survivors shown here. The little fluffy family member are not only attractive and a pleasure to watch but they are quite vulnerable to predators which range from fishers (Fisher Cats in New England), mink, turtles, largemouth bass, Coopers and Sharp Shinned Hawks. I have even been told that muskrats are guilty but I can not confirm. Northern Banded Water Snakes can also be blamed for the demise of not only the ducklings but the adults as well. We enjoy them while we see them!
