Park Free When Shopping in The Silverlight Store

Park free in the "Aubuchon Hardware" lot immediately behind Silverlight Candle & Gift Shop while shopping at Silverlight.

While many off-main street parking meters now have bags over them indicating free parking from now through December 26 - courtesy of the city - enjoy free parking at Silverlight immediately behind the shop (free all year round when shopping at our store). Easy to get to and it’s safe: take a right at City Hall onto West Hollis, take the next right at the first traffic light onto Elm Street, take your next right at the city’s Elm Street Garage, take the very next left at the stop sign and our parking lot is on the right. There are two other businesses upstairs in what is now the old Aubuchon Hardware Building and parking is free for their customers as well.

So, for fast, easy holiday shopping at our Main Street gift shop, take advantage of our convenient parking and enjoy 30% off all purchases beyond your initial $25 purchase.

One-on-one tutoring at Silverlight ($35/hr.) is available for many subjects and times are flexible. The following is from my tutoring profile at Wyzant Tutoring - a national online tutoring company. (However, my WyzAnt rate is $55/hour so be sure to schedule with me at Silverlight unless you do not mind paying $20/hr more for the same services.) Tutoring Hours: 10 AM to 6 PM every day except Sundays and by appointment only. Call Gary at Silverlight at 603-943-7379.

Here is part of my profile. Additionally, WyzAnt has certified me for tutoring in more than a dozen areas from general computer and software instruction to English as a Second Language to Global History and to English and Writing.

PROFILE:

I am a very hard-working and diligent teacher - recently retired from the NYC Department of Education - who is skilled at discovering and understanding student learning problems and in helping students to sharpen their study skills by teaching them to apply specific strategies. I have prepared hundreds of students to take the 8th Grade and 11th Grade EnglishLanguage Arts (ELA) tests in Manhattan public schools as well as the high school state Global History test.

My students year after year substantially raised their ELA state scores and learned how to be better readers and writers. I am especially skilled in teaching students to write good essays which are so important in the New York State EnglishLanguage Arts examination and in doing well at all college levels and classes.

I can travel if need be - to the Nashua library for example - but I can also tutor online-discounted prices would usually apply. I prefer to tutor however in the rear section of my store at 213 Main Street, Nashua, where I also conduct adult and young adult writing classes.

As a professional writer, English teacher, reading/writing teacher and literacy specialist, I am able to quickly diagnose student reading and writing problems and set them on their way toward adopting more efficient learning styles. Modeling is a very important aspect of my teaching. I show how to do something, then guide the student in doing it, then let the student do it herself. It’s basically the strategy of: “I do, you watch. You do, I watch. You do.” I am results orientated and I engage every student in setting goals and guide them toward achieving them.

I have taught all levels from K-12 in Manhattan over my 13-year teaching career and have taught ESL classes in the city. I have two daughters who excel in their high school work. I have also tutored Columbia University graduate students in the English language. My certification is in English but I also have taught quite a lot of history courses. Additionally, I can teach most subjects from k-8.

I received my BA in English and in Journalism from the University of Massachusetts, my MS in Literacy (teaching degree) from Touro College in Manhattan and had course work at Harvard University and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

As a journalist, I wrote news copy for 12 years before my teaching career and ten of them were spent specializing in court news for about 30 Boston-area news organizations.

My students in the city liked working with me because they know I am extremely persistent, firm when I need to be and I demand results and get them. This earns their respect.
