Peacock Players Brings Roller-Disco Musical 'Xanadu' To Nashua

Nashua, April 26, 2023: Peacock Players is gearing up to perform their spring teen mainstage production of Xanadu, the Broadway musical based on the 80's cult classic movie starring Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly. This production features area teens and is rated PG. The show is directed by Peacock's Executive Director Elle Millar, music directed by Karina Allayne, and choreographed by Peacock's own high school senior, Grace Giannetti. The show performs the weekends of May 12-21 in Nashua.

Xanadu follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira (Sophia Scribner of Nashua), who descends from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny (Cameron Fraser of Dunstable), to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first ROLLER DISCO! But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous muse sisters (Gabby Wallace and Raylynn Despres of Nashua) take advantage of the situation, and chaos abounds.

This production has been a fun challenge for all involved. Executive Director Elle Millar, who serves as the director for this production, describes the show as "a hilarious parody of an already very cult story." She says "People have strong opinions about the original film, but this musical is really a wonderful update of the story. If you love the movie, you'll love the show. If you didn't like the movie, this show might just win you over. It takes a rather ridiculous premise and turns up the farce to 100."

When choosing a choreographer for the production, Millar turned to Grace Giannetti, a senior at Souhegan High School in Amherst, NH. Giannetti is a longtime Peacock performer, camp counselor, and volunteer. Millar says "I had seen glimpses of what she could do with choreography, but I'm still absolutely blown away by her talent. When we performed at the opening of the Nashua PAC on April 1st, the choreography was what everyone wanted to talk about. She's brilliant."

The show performs the weekends of May 12-21, with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm. The roller disco will come to life at the Janice B. Streeter Theatre, located at 14 Court Street in Nashua. Tickets are available at www.peacockplayers.org.
