Political correctness is language fascism and anti-community

Political correctness shuts down authentic conversation and diminishes trust.

For a community to function effectively it must contain three important elements - truth, trust, and trade. This is according to my friend Justin Keith, who recently offered a presentation entitled, Truth, Trust, and Trade, How Liberty fosters adaptable societies.

If people are not able to speak to each other honestly, that creates a climate of insecurity and fear, which diminishes the trust that is needed for good relations and healthy commerce. Unfortunately this is the condition that appears to be plaguing many of our communities today as diversity has been coupled with political correctness.

More alarmingly, some political factions exploit political correctness for power. If they can get people to stop talking they can dis-empower them, which is the ultimate goal. Silence the opposition through intimidation. In effect, this is a form of fascism.

That is why I refer to political correctness as reverse McCarthyism. The political right under McCarthy created a climate of fear by going after and labeling people Communists. Today the political left creates a climate of fear by going after people and labeling them racist or homophobic. The result is that people stop talking to each other.

This is very bad for community cohesion and something that common sense community builders actively combat in our work. We want to remove the barriers to authentic communication in the search for truth and harmony.

My suggestion is to reward people that take communication risks, even if they make you a little uncomfortable, and avoid people that promote language fascism. We must end political correctness if we are to restore the American community.
