PELHAM, NH — The fat pig outside Pelham High School Tuesday morning during New Hampshire primary voting could have made for a nice stunt against pork spending in politics—but alas, this pig was simply lost.

Police said the pig, weighing in at over 600 pounds, escaped from a local farm and trotted away for a joy ride, eventually ending up at the high school where hundreds of voters showed up to cast ballots.

The pig didn’t cause any trouble. The farm owner showed up to take the animal back home, police said.

The incident comically underscored the record voter turnout expected Tuesday. Secretary of State Bill Gardner predicted up to 550,000 voters or more will cast ballots, which would exceed the 2008 primary totals.
